If you have been following my blog you would have seen I was just there a few months ago… But the island’s wily charms inevitably lured it’s not-so-unsuspecting victim back once again, yet treated to a whole different mood of experience this fourth time around…..
Super Girls (& Dudes) go Bali Dreamin’
The excited girls at the airport early in the morning…. for all of them it was their maiden voyage there!
Then there’s us hamming it up for the cameras even though we were a little sleep-deprived….
….. as you can obviously tell
A glorious arrival.
We’re starving, and immediately head for some local lunch in the Nusa Dua area.
Refreshing huge coconut drink….
This one was interesting, very different from those we get in Singapore, because it had a whole lotta coconut water and little white flesh!
Our feast of a lunch… the whole table was covered with food.
I could not stop going at 1) the nicely marinated satay with delicious Indo-style peanut sauce, 2) the fish dipped in a special mix of sambal chilli, lime, onions, herbs and the perennial favorite sauce Indonesians use in almost everything….
We troop off to Makro, the bulk superstore, to stock up on supplies.
Everything was pretty much dirt cheap…. the girls were going into a mini frenzy over the shampoos, conditioners, creams etc. A big tube of Pond’s body moisturizer I got? About 2plus SGD only.
Umm… I think we got a little carried away….
After a long time in superMakro-wonderland, we’re driven back to Sanur in our 3 big SUVs for a first glimpse of our private villa.
And my…. gorgeous it was!
First night’s dinner at Jimbaran Bay, near the Four Seasons.
Shack-attack, beachside, ultra-fresh grilled/bbq lobster & seafood.
We pick our own produce…
…. and get swamped in endless BBQ smoke.
The guys also discovered the yummiest corn ever! Spicy!
The food was addictive. Words simply cannot describe how good it was. We just kept eating, and eating, and eating. The fish… those prawns…. that heavenly sambal chilli… I’ve died and gone to seafood heaven!
The rest of our days were spent in relative idyllic bliss.
The magic girls chill & get colorful
Playing card games, and the super fun TABOO!
Andrew wins the funniest player award hands down When can we play again?
We had to put all those groceries to good use no doubt…. home-cooking and endless snacking.
Drove around and finally found a decent tropical-chic spa nearby to pamper ourselves at….
The streets of Bali….
Quiet back alleys…
From small roadside boutiques to a sprawling modern mall by the beach….
I missed one night of partying because I was too tired, but there was a Round II.
Meals, as usual, are big highlights for me
Dinner at Atmosphere.
We sat in a large rooftop canope overlooking a nice view…
Plus a live band!
Dinner at the iconic Bali eatery Made’s Warung in Seminyak.
My second time here, good food.
Made’s Warung has a large garden area with tables and chairs, plus an inside section with the ‘warung style’ tables layout. Warung style means long table and bench seating.
And remember Jimbaran Bay on our first night? We loved and craved it so much that we had to go back there one more time.(Is it opium that’s their secret ingredient? Is it?!)
… and how lucky were we to have a spectacular fireworks display that night.
Finally…. of course, always the highlight of my Bali trips… THE place to be when evening falls…
Sunset at Ku De Ta.
Sexy, chic-y, sleeky, lounge-contempo, open-plan, clean lines, and stunning beach setting.
Lounging by the bar..
Oh take me back there, right now… to that watercolor painting of rich pinks and blues and golds that I stepped foot into…
Breathe in and take it all in… feel free..
