* I DO NOT UPDATE WWW.DAWNYANG.COM ANYMORE.
I WILL BE MOVING, TO A SWANKIER PLACE.
I CURRENTLY STILL UPDATE AT WWW.XANGA.COM/CLAPBANGKISS FOR TIME BEING SO PLEASE CHECK THE XANGA SITE FROM NOW ON INSTEAD.The good folks at Tiger always made sure we were well fed. Very well fed.
The trendy restaurant in Shoreditch they brought us to was truly “Great” and pan-”Eastern”. Expecting pseudo-Asian fare, as is often the case overseas, I could not believe how surprisingly good the food was! Their dessert, a Pandan Panacotta, was a lip-smackingly amazing creation. Not two, but ten thumbs up for them.
The baby pork ribs in black bean sauce was out of this world. Some people did not seem hungry that night, so I ended up eating most of their portions. I loved it that much, and besides, why waste food right? Please hurry to this restaurant if you’re in London, you won’t regret it, chop chop!
Kenny kept laughing at my supposed gluttony and took a photo of some of the leftover bones I had ravaged, which I thought quite funny-
After our hearty meal, we embark on a London pub crawl…..
….. in Tiger Beer tut-tuts nonetheless!!
Never thought you’d see these in the U.K huh. They made for a memorable ride as we waved and yelled back at passerbys on the street.
“Hu3 Pai2 Xin1 Jia1 Po1″ – “Tiger Beer Singapore” gleamingly displayed in Mandarin characters. Hmm… a sense of pride for my home land
We make stops at crowded hot spots such as Cargo, Cantaloupe, and Juno.
Demonstrating his drinking prowess. Give the man a Tiger…. one is not enough!Tiger Beer has remarkably progressed from a home-grown brand to a popular and immensely successful brew around the world. And when I looked on as the Singaporeans and Asians amongst us merrily sipped our Tigers whilst kicking back with the Londoners and everyone else, I was struck by the thought of how Tiger had evolved to great new heights, yet has managed to remain true to its 75 year heritage.
Uber cute & funky Jasiminne joins us at Juno, for Monorex’s live graffiti showdown “Secret Wars”
This is a timed art battle, right in front of an audience as they party and dance away.
Fascinating to watch two talents battle it out not through dance nor debate, but through their art. They have to come up with creative ways to coyingly ”slam” each other.
Only the sickest, or most creative of wits, could come up with an insult to his opponent as such, lol.The winner is decided by the judges, as well as the cheers of the audience, measured by a decibel meter (which the guy is holding up)
A very cool concept, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s participatory and a stimulation of the senses - sure beats just sitting around in the dark with a drink in hand. I was glad to know that “Secret Wars” would take place at Tiger Translate as well!

The big day arrives….
We drop by Hearn Street Carpark in the afternoon, the venue of our much-anticipated finale event, where preparations are well underway.
The stage is set for the “Secret War”…
The artists continue to put their finishing touches on their pieces…..
Charlie aka Pure Evil and the funkaccesorized cab.
Andreas from Denmark responding to “London’s Calling”
What’s that cute fiesty little creature Mee Wong (China) is drawing? A panda? A lion? A Pandion? However, the artists have to remember to leave some portions unfinished.
Strange? Why?
So that they can complete the works in front of the party-goers! I think it will no doubt be a great experience for the audience to witness live collaborations this way.
The mural is coming together very nicely, despite the juxtaposing of contrasting styles.
Artists Badral (Mongolia) and Ben (Singapore). Lounging underneath a work that is made of, gasp, HORSE HAIR!p.s Interesting how this shot of them is so perfectly color coordinated no?
Art pieces of AKAs past and present on display…
This one is my favorite -
All Tiger AKAs and their work have been profiled in a series of hard-back books dedicated to Asia’s brightest emerging artists, and these books are currently on sale in bookstores worldwide.
As seen below, one of the releases under the theme Gold. The color of Tiger’s award winning brew perhaps, synonymous with wealth and success?
Good as gold~
In case you are wondering, the succulent meat I was tucking into while flipping through the book is the famous Bayswater roast duck that every Singaporean told me to try
My verdict: Too fatty for my liking. And I prefer crispier skin. Like Peking Duck, you know?
Just some of the vast and interesting artwork in the Tiger Translate book :
Eye-catching. The famous *I faked my own death*, Sydney-based Ben Frost’s vibrant distinctive pop art :
Tada. Above is the Frosty-cool Ben Frost who sure knows how to step out in style… nice top hat! We were at Koko, a restored opera house, enjoying some live rock music.
Speaking of music, it is undeniably an art form unto itself as well. Tiger Translate, in their commitment to create opportunities for creative talents, has helped unearth punk rock band Circle 22. They are a winning music sensation from Thailand, who have since been signed under a major record label.
Sawadeeka. With the boys from Circle22.How will the artists translate and intepret the theme of VOYAGE in the context of contemporary Asia?
How will their end creations turn out in front of the live audience?
What is Tiger Translate 2008 going to be like?Visit www.tigertranslate.com to quench your thirsty curiousities in the meantime. They have many other cool features you would like on their website. Register for updates on future activities and competitions.
Stay tuned for the final installment…
p.s I am devasted I am not home for our very first ever Formula-1 night race and all the madcap exciting festivities!
