  •    Asia’s First Renoma Café Gallery

Renoma – most of you probably know this French fashion brand for it’s stylish underwear range…

… but did you also know there is a long and celebrated history behind the label?

    The Story of Renoma

Started in the sixties by Monsieur Maurice Renoma at Rue de la Pompe, Paris, their forward, avant-garde designs were embraced by trendsetters in the fashion world.

They introduced many items into France for the first time −  Indian handkerchiefs, American shirts, Penny loafers, English student caps, boxer shorts, the Lenin velvet suit.

Renoma was responsible for dressing and styling a multitude of famous rockstars back then. Renoma was considered the main force in the yé-yé movement in Paris and subsequently grew popular in Japan too.

A dazzling troupe of the famous and beautiful would gather in the Renoma Paris boutique, which was the first to play ambient music. The likes of Elton John, Pele, Dali and Brigitte Bardot were often seen there.

Progressively, Renoma has since then expanded into women’s apparel, underwear, fragrance, and leather goods.

What next then? Why, F&B of course!

Most recently, Maurice Renoma translated his love of the creative arts and his passion for photography into a furniture and accessory line, that is showcased at The Renoma Gallery Café in Paris.

The Renoma Café Gallery is not just a restaurant, it is a hub of social activity –  part art gallery, part boutique, part dining establishment. It’s a chic, non-touristy (why didn’t I know about this earlier!) spot in Paris, hosting photography expositions several times a year, such as those for Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and James Dean.

So impressed were some visitors, they decided to bring this cool concept to Asia.

Renoma Café Gallery is now open in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

I was at the grand opening party on 24th October, for an evening of high-octane fun with the glitterati of KL city.

Here are some highlights of the night:

    With Natalia, Miss Malaysia finalist

Flying in specially from Paris… stylist-designer-photographer Maurice Renoma

He may be getting on in age, but that night and on another afternoon when I met Mr. Renoma, his dress sense and fashion detailing was sharper than most men I’ve seen; the spirit he possesses is still decidedly young and spunky!

Left: Erik Ong, my pal & also my work representative in Malaysia, founder of Erik Talent Management.
Center: The flamboyant celebrity Chef Wan. My dad is a fan of his shows and was excited to know I met him!

On my right: Michael and Ronald From Moet Hennessy Diego Malaysia

Meet the owners: Linda Chen and Daniel Chiang. The couple who were so inspired to bring the art-form bistro to Malaysia.

Dennis Lau, celebrity violist, electrifies the crowd

Look ma, the Eiffel Tower! A brilliant sand art performance

… and of course the night would not be complete without a sexy fashion show :)

Told ya it was sexy ;)

I got my caricature done, what do you think?

Looks like the real person? Prettier, uglier, weirder? ;P

    Food, drinks, fashion, art, music

Located in the heart of KL city, Renoma Café Gallery exudes a cozy, urban atmosphere where ample artwork is displayed everywhere.

The feeling it gives is of a hip and creative space in a contemporary setting, an “artsy” spot with industrial style décor mixed with digitally printed neo-classical leather lounge chairs. The quirky, raw sensuality balances the calm and relaxing ambience.

Of course, there is the Champ Galerie – a shopping and gallery area to satisfy the discerning shopper.

I had the chance to dine at Renoma Café Gallery on a lazy afternoon.

High ceilings and full length glass windows to allow plenty of natural sunlight in in the day. I must say it’s one of the nicer, more sophisticated hang-out spots in KL, compared to the usual restaurants in the malls!  At night, a live DJ spins music.

The heart of the menu is French, innovatively infused with American and Asian touches. I enjoyed my very delicious * personalized*meal!

(clockwise from top left): RCG smoothie, Croque Madame, my very own chocolate molten lava cake, escargots.

    Foi Gras

    French Onion Soup

    Le Café Gourmand
This dessert dish is the latest trend amongst Parisians, comprising of a long espresso, with “petit fours” of Macaroonn, Mango Millefeuile, Éclair, and Croquignole (double baked biscuits)!

    Play darts!

Catch up with friends, organize a business lunch, or enjoy a romantic dinner… this is the place for smart executives, cool artists and fun people to gather in a chic, casual setting.

Plus needless to say, prices won’t hurt as much as the Parisian outlet!  :P

  • You so beautiful and smart with university scholarship

  • Decidedly chic, hip, and exciting — a perfect example of your typical Dawn post! Always a joy to read.

  • Xiaxue did a ‘blind test’ on Gardnier BB cream on some internet video site. I commented saying that the test cannot be unbiased because there is personal gain.(she promoted the product on her blog as an advert) The BLIND test is invalid and is certainly not impartial. I commented twice about this, and twice, my comments were deleted.

Yeah right, she couldn’t be arsed to moderate more comments on her post on ‘Criminal son versus slut daughter’. She just refused to have them published. Censor most opposing comments but publish a few of those to look magnanimous before she alltogether stopped ‘moderating’ comments. Sounds more like disguised censorship to me.

Xiaxue goes attacking people outside Singapore (ie. Adele) to propel her blog to international fame. That is just pathetic, she thrives on negativity. Does she ever write anything on the basis of her own ideas ? Those who represent her ‘do not judge Xiaxue stealing ideas from others’ or ‘turn a blind eye when she goes hunting’ as long as there is financial gain for themselves ? Yes, yes, I suppose lending your name to unethical actions is allright as long as there is something in it for you.

If Xiaxue keeps censoring opposing comments like the late Kim Yong Il, the audience will resurface using another medium to post their comments. There is simply too much regulation at her own blog.

  • Alien eyes(no not a compliment)

  • @Eli -

You must be one heck of an irritating commenter for her to keep deleting your comments.

I used to get some of my comments deleted too. Whenever I commented something good about her, she approved the comments even if I was lying or exaggerating, but whenever I opposed her views even in the nicest way, she deleted the comments. When she did approve the comments occasionally, she’ll make sure it followed with her own nasty replies laden with high-handed profanities that I have no way to rebut. Even with all the evidence pointing at her to prove my opposing view, she’ll make sure I don’t have my say if she had nothing to say in her defence.. I have since stopped visiting her sites for more than a year now. I have no idea what she wrote about Adele but I doubt Adele or any international star has any interest in the unintelligent blabberings of a low-class talentless midget. Or maybe one fine day, she will find herself being slapped with a defamation lawsuit without any warning like Dawn Yang did to her. Serves her right, the sore loser deserves it !

Each time she appears on TV, she looks like she splashed tons of facial products smack in her face sitting like a dumbass interviewee and most fake personality ever. She’s looking more and more fake each time ! Wonder how she looks underneath those loads of makeup ….

  • @Eli -
How can it be a “Blind” test when she already knows what product it is!
I saw the Garnier ad at a Guardian Pharmacy counter. Her forehead was so swollen in the pic that she looked like she had a bump on the forehead. That was obviously too much BOTOX. I walked away from the counter disgusted and wondering if it was Garnier or the excessive Botox that was making her complexion look better!

  • @Cuntie Doris -  Wah lau, cuntie doris look like slut. So old already, the face fucking ugly still want to dress like dat .. :O

  • Singapore’s hottest blog is contaminated with too much Xiaxue parasite that never goes away. The horror of discovering her own family become receiving ends of the “name and shame” game she loves to play, and all she can do is battle rage and hatred within herself for igniting this mania…

  • Well, the reason ‘Singapore’s Hottest Blog’ is ‘contaminated’ with ‘Xiaxue parasite’ is due to censorship at Xiaxue’s blog. No comments at XX’s blog are allowed to be published immediately until they pass the watchful eyes of XX. It’s odd that she suddenly had ‘all’ comments published after saying she can’t be arsed to moderate new comments at ‘Criminal son or slut daughter’. The chronology is odd. She had to negate ‘disguised censorship’ by suddenly publishing ‘all’ the comments ? If there really isn’t any censorship, then there isn’t a need to moderate them.

How can people not be mislead to interpret her twitter message ‘Criminal son better than slut daughter’ ? First she termed girls at 10 or 11 years of age who suck dicks ‘sluts’ because they are willing parties. Later on (in the same post where she supposedly clarifies) she contradicts herself saying, ‘At age 11 a girl is not old enough to decide who she should have sex with, know the psychological or physical consequences to having sex nor does she have the ability to take care of a child lest she get pregnant or even have the money for an abortion!’. Willing-11 year olds are NOT victims if they are ‘sluts’ ? You tell me ! Her child is an extension of her, she rather her child rapes than be raped. In the same line of thoughts, she (her own person) rather be the aggressor than the victim. Rather defames than have someone defame her. Rather exploits than be exploited. Yes, her actions in the past showed all of this.

  • Hee…..my comments about the Gardnier product are now published (it’s bad publicity to call it ‘BLIND’ test). They are ‘getting’ my message. Doesn’t negate the fact that my comments on being impartial were once (twice actually) deleted.

  • Let’s all help XX earn a few bucks, help her rise to more fame. Negative publicity is still publicity, you know ? Until her dirty laundry gets exposed.

  • Meanwhile, Dawn Yang is the one enjoying more hits to her blog as readers like me are flocking in to read what is being exposed about Xiaxue that one may never read in any other site : )

Commenter “Eli” has a keen eye to spot the bungle XX has made. XX will probably pretend that she never saw this or come up with manipulative excuses again.

Slut daughter or rapist son – her child is most definitely going to be a BIG VICTIM and LOSER. It goes without saying … It’s called Retribution!

  • Blogging is XX’s bread and butter so don’t be too hard on her when she does nothing wrong. It is a different story when she purposely says stupid things to get hits on her blog. ‘Criminal son is better than slut daughter’. I can’t sympathise with her because this kind of misleading message makes people want to tear anybody apart. Being pregnant is no excuse for pity when you hunt for attention like that.

  • Mike Sayre is a useless freeloader husband who cannot even pay for one airline ticket to fly down his mother to Singapore despite living here for more than 6 years. From a free wedding to house renovations sponsorships, and now even for one air ticket, he has to ride on his wife for everything. It’s no surprise then that XX has to reduce herself to an infamous attention-seeking whore and stoop to blogging about stupid things just to steal more fame and fortune. If I had a useless husband like her, perhaps I may also stoop to doing anything to make more money.

  • I have been intelligent for hours and I haven’t gone through such awesome stuff.
