Room Makeover Project x Qeeple pt.I
Not many people know this, but I'm quite the homely girl.
Don't get me wrong, I love going out to explore different places and try those hot new dining spots - but I'd much prefer to do so in the evening, or better, in cooler cities. Our sunny, sticky Singapore weather is uncomfortably unpleasant and other than the attraction of their cineplexes, roaming a cookie-cutter air-conditioned mall isn't exactly my favorite cup of tea. We don't even have pretty blue skies to entice me out. If not on holiday, I find myself quite inclined to stay home, have dinner parties and play boardgames with friends - unless of course there's a good reason to go out.

You can call me a vampire of sorts too if you like. I think I'm more productive in the wee hours past midnight, when the world slinks off into a dreamland of oblivion and there is little to distract (I'm a highly distractable, ADD person).
Needless to say, my coffin room is my sanctuary. Since I do a lot of work from home, I often have the leisure of switching between my small office downstairs and my comfortable bedroom upstairs
I can easily whittle away hours cooped up inside, cell phone on silent. Things that keep me occupied? Work work work, reading, surfing the web, watching shows, quiet time with God... and who can forget those lovely little naps as an orchestra of rain plays outside.
I'm happy staying in. BUT... there is one major thing that I'm not happy about...
I HATE HOW MY ROOM LOOKS.
It hasn't changed since we moved into this house when I was 17! >.<
My parents and the interior designer didn't pay attention to what I wanted then (scoff, what does a nerdy teenager know right?) Light beech wood? I wanted something really dark! Yellow blinds? What happened to my dreamy, long floor-sweeping drapes?! I wanted a low bed frame and um, that's about the only thing they listened to. After that, I spent many years living abroad, returning to Singapore only intermittently. I just never found the right time to re-design my room.
Until now. I'm back for good and ready to make a change!
It's quite embarassing... but I'm going to show you how my ugly room currently looks like.

Plain and spartan. Also notice the obtrusive structural pillar that remains after the space was extended.
NOT ENOUGH STORAGE SPACE!!! I need more shelving and compartments to put away my things.
Tons of stuff from yesteryears that I still keep. I'm very sentimental that way.
Uh oh, notice the old blinds that recently started coming apart.
Also, the lighting is too dim; at night it makes me feel sleepy and I can't see well.

Overflowing wardrobe. This is certainly not enough for a shopaholic and makes looking for items difficult.
I've even hijacked TWO more large cupboards outside for my clothes!
The reason why I take longer to get ready, is because I can't find what to wear haha
Bathroom

My parents built everything in full marble so it'd stand the test of time.
Only fixtures such as the taps, shower head, towel rail, mirrors and cabinetry would be nice to update.
I've always loved browsing and reading interior and architecture publications, tearing pictures out or saving images for my viewing pleasure. So over the past year I started thinking more seriously about the vision and direction for my new room. They say the bedroom reflects a person's personality and tastes, so take a peek into my inner world through some decor I've bookmarked~

In fact, you can view more of my interior inspirations in my qeepbooks (word play on "keep") at qeeple.com/dawnyang

One of my many qeepbooks. Rearrange the pictures, enlarge or downsize them to make however interesting a montage you want
In Qeeple, qeepbooks are similar to folders in Pininterest, where you can browse, keep and organize favorite photos into your own choice of various home categories such as bedroom, bathroom, kitchen etc. Think of them as moodboards to visualize and explain your creative ideas and personal style.
It's super awesome to start your home design journey with Qeeple! The home-grown site has the largest library bank of interior and furnishing ideas in Singapore updated regularly; furthermore there's the added convenience of having the name of the designing firm/supplier provided with each picture. View their portfolio + contact details, get prices and quotes from them on the website itself!

Upload your own sketches, floorplans and showcase images you've collected as well. Choose to share it with others, and help designers you've contacted to get a good idea of your preferences. It's all very interactive and fun!
Through Qeeple, I was matched with a great designer whom I felt had the suitable aesthetic skills to help me turn my sleeping dreams into reality. Joann Ang is the award-awarding director of DDA (Designed Design Associates), check out DDA's Qeeple page.
Joann carefully went through my qeepbooks to understand my tastes and discussed with me my needs. Here are the 3 floor plan options she's come up with:

Please help me select one by telling me which option you think is best?
Thanks to Qeeple, I've found excellent contractors listed on their site to work together with DDA on carpentry, wall coatings, laminates, curtains, bathroom and even lighting!

"Alright dream team, let's shake this ghetto hole of a place up"
Incredibly excited to embark on my bedroom makeover project. Come back again for more updates over the next few weeks!
Meantime, wish me luck in packing and moving everything OUT *gasp*
