  • Citizen L

This is my future husband. Handsome isn’t he?

As he is the ambassador for Citizen watches, it’s only natural I get myself some wrist action from the brand as well ;o)

One watch stood out and immediately caught my eye.

I fell in love with it the moment I put it on!

    The gorgeous rose gold.

    19 delicate diamonds.

    An elegant, unique design.

    Call a spade a spade.
Likewise, when something is beautiful, it’s beauty strikes you to the soul… it just is.

    My beautiful new time piece

    ..  CITIZEN L ..

Its perfect aesthetic reminds me of the graceful beauty of nature.Shiny sapphire glass like carved ice or fresh morning dew on a leaf, a semi ring of diamonds like glistening pearls on an ocean bed. The multi-faceted rings resemble flower petals blooming.

I spent a day strolling Gardens by the Bay for the first time, exploring the flower dome and cloud forest. At the same time I wore my Citizen L to commemorate its “opening ceremony” ;)

It exudes a feminine radiance that is classy yet modern. Makes a great accessory for any lady’s outfit. Love it!

Life is about the journey, not the destination. Take time to smell the flowers.

Lunch time at the al fresco café!

Most of the time I like men’s size watches, but for a ladies watch I absolutely adore this one. It is solid luxury, and brings understated, refined confidence to everyday wear.

I know I’ll be wearing this piece very often!

It’s also a wonderful blend of looks and technology – the Citizen L never requires battery replacement! It comes with Citizen's solar powered Eco-Drive, so whenever nature’s ultimate gift of light is present it can run.

I don’t know what the L stands for… probably lady. But I believe it also represents luxury, love, light, life… all perfectly encapsulated in this watch.

    I love it, amazingly pretty.
    Beauty is beauty

    Study this simple equation.

    Plus

With The Welcome Rewards loyalty programme on Hotels.com, it’s as simple as that.

Book 10 nights and get 1 night free!

Whether you are traveling for business or leisure, the ten-night target is easily attainable.

    It’s almost unbelievably too easy.

(Pop the champagne! No more waiting long years for miserable points to accumulate.)

The free* night is valued at the average rate of the ten qualifying stays.

In the above example I created,

La Bella Juliette, Paris = SGD$356 per night
Hotel Americano, New York City = SGD$388 per night
    Average value = SGD$372

Which is just about enough to get a suite at The Westin Siray Bay.

Alternatively, upgrade your free* night to a more expensive room if you pay the difference.

Hotels.com provides a price match guarantee so you can be sure you are getting the lowest rate or they will match it.

You may also choose to save multiple free* nights and use them all at once. Imagine redeeming a week long vacation of free hotel stays, woohoo.

*Taxes and fees apply to the free night

Welcome Rewards is a big dream come true for travel nomads like myself - what a fuss-free, uncomplicated programme! I can very quickly redeem a free night... at not just one or ten, but 65,000 hotels!

  • Room Makeover Project x Qeeple pt.4

The light at the end of the tunnel is within reach. We're in the end stages of my bedroom's transformation!

If you want to catch up on what has happened so far:

    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3

Now we're adding the finishing touches before all the soft furnishings like the bed, cushions and chair etc. move in.

What else have we done since? Read on :)

    LE SURMOUNT

    http://qeeple.com/lesurmount

    SPONSORED: Wallpaper

Here I am with Ryan, ready to get down to work!

Le Surmount is a well-established and renowned company for all types of interior wall coverings in Singapore. They count Shangri-La Hotel and Charles & Keith amongst their clients.

They offered 3 options for my walls:

    i) Paint
    ii) Wallpaper
    iii) Wall Coating

What is wall coating, you might ask?

It's a hybrid of paint and wallpaper developed from cutting-edge Spanish technology!

I've seen samples of wall coating; it is a very unique textured material, think like a concrete or stone textures that are soft to the touch. And some have shimmering sparkly flakes mixed in.

I would have loved to try wall coating for it's unique decorating touch in other rooms of my house, or in say a retail/shop space (yes I dream!), but I prefer my bedroom to remain understated, smooth and classic. So I thought I'd just freshen it up with a new coat of plain paint. Actually, the thought of using wallpaper had never occurred me before.

My designer Joann from Designed Design Associates, recommended I install wallpaper if I truly desired a "hotel" bedroom.

I recoiled in horror at first.

"Umm... I'm not one for loud prints in my bedroom..." I told her hesitantly....  And there were the horror stories of unsightly peeling.

"There are simple and elegant wallpapers to choose from!" Joann reassured me.  It'll give a wonderful finish that will really make a difference, not flat like paint!"

"If done properly by the right experienced professionals, there should be little problems with wallpaper." She explained that the Le Surmount guys were very good she usually used them for her projects.

I thought about it, looked at photos and tried recalling all the 5-star hotels I stayed in. I realized, by golly it's quite true! The luxury ones in the cities always have some sort of wall covering to give a very even, nice-to-touch look.

Funny how we can take something that takes up so much visual space like the walls for granted in the interior makeover process. It's all in the finer details.

Ryan lays out the wallpaper on my newly darkened parquet flooring.

Apply glue. Wait a while for paper to shrink.

I made a valiant attempt, but considering how their installers undergo years of apprenticeship and training, the job was better left up to the experts!

I watch on as the shifu shows me how it's REALLY DONE.

Zoom zoom, slice slice; in quick fluid motions each panel is stuck on, cut and finished in a flash.

    CSI scene: Restricted area

    All in a day's work.
(okay fine, I didn't do that much but I'll help do the heavy lifting 'cos you know, I'm real tough)

    Post-Installation Tips!

    • Air bubbles right after are normal. Wait for a few days for the bumps to disappear and the wallpaper will flatten out smoothly.
    • Wallpaper is made of a vinyl surface - you can clean it with a damp cloth.
    • Peeling is caused by fast changing temperatures that cause wallpaper to expand and contract. To prevent this, do not open your windows immediately after switching off the air conditioner. Wait for air temperature to settle to normal levels first before doing so.

The atmosphere of the room was undoubtedly changed after the wallpaper installation. From kind of drabby to an extra dosage of "posh"!

Ever heard of the expression, "if these walls could talk?" If you're decorating a home, walls do talk. They can make or break a style. I realized paint or wallpaper are two little touches that bring fresh perspective to a space, and create a huge impact on the overall impression of your home.

     ----------

Btw, you can see from the photos that most of my carpentry work is almost done - everything is so well made! Excited room-owner that I was, I couldn't help but enter the half-completed room everyday to admire the wardrobe, pull open drawers, slide my fingers along the shelving, feeling the wonderfully pieced together wood grain laminates, as I imagined myself already living there and what I'd put in each compartment :)

Super fast and superb builders, I highly recommend the contractors Magnificent Seven!  http://qeeple.com/mseven#

Along with my interior design firm DDA http://qeeple.com/dda , they have come up with a plan to makeover my bathroom as well!

This is how it looks like before:

Better storage needed. Tap is not working as well anymore.

Fixtures are tarnished and showing signs of aging.

10 years ago, when my parents built our home, they invested in fully marble bathrooms because they believed it would stand the test of time, in terms of both form and function. I think they had good foresight :)

A decade later, there isn't a great need to overhaul my entire bathroom. I admit I wouldn't mind re-designing and changing it to a whiter color scheme, but my parents decided it'd be a waste to hack out expensive marble that was still looking okay.

However there were improvements that DDA and Magnificent 7 proposed:

    • Change the old fixtures to new ones
    • To brighten the area, additional LED lights from LED lighting specialists Bonjour Odyssey qeeple.com/bonjourodyssey
    • Redesign the vanity area with new mirror panels and a diagonal concealed storage shelf

    Time to go bathroom shopping!

Sansei provides a one-stop destination for bathroom fixtures and accessories housed in a cutting-edge, industrial-style 4,000 sq ft. showroom. Furniture halls are a dime a dozen, but how often do you visit one for baths? It's very interesting for sure. Sansei's carefully selected array of quality bathroom brands sourced from top-notch, cutting edge, international designers are sure to impress any visitor!

Home decor is certainly not spared from the trappings of consumerism and vanity - the thing is, sometimes home owners just want to show off. They don't cook but they have a state of the art kitchen with a marble top island. The most music they listen to is on their car radio but they buy an AvantGarde Acoustic stereo system anyway. And some, would probably get a giant, color-changing whirl pool bath just for the WOW factor.

Put this sensational bath tub indoors or outdoors, it doesn't matter. It's so fun and dip worthy, who wouldn't love it?
Check out the Blue Moon from Duravit.

What other super cool things can one get for their bathroom? Plenty, at Sansei.

Multi-function toilet bowl controls as popularized by Japan.
Never fear about not being clean enough down there anymore.

In a hideaway secret room (me thinks perhaps only VIPS with high spending power can enter),
immerse yourself in exquisite designer fittings from luxury European brands.

It is apparent the products here ooze quality, high levels of technology and aesthetic allure. Not your typical stuff!

Take inspiration from TT Durai with a 24 carat gold tap.

Why contend with just Philipe Starck furniture? Get his specially designed bathroom ranges from Duravit.

This bathroom concept designed by Starck is inspired by simple, natural and fundamental elements of life.

Feels very zen. I can imagine enjoying a view of Mount Fuji outside the window.

    With the Sansei management :)

Having used a premium Italian brand of bathroom fixtures for a long time, I told Sansei I was looking for a replacement that was of the same quality standardor better. It had to be an aesthetically pleasing line that provides technical and ergonomic performance.

    The perfect choice?

CRISTINA - a unique range 100% designed and manufactured in Italy since 1949. Exclusively available at Sansei.

"Umbrella, brella, brella, eh eh eh...."

I love Cristina's beautiful geometrical shapes and sleek lines combining effortlessly with gentle curves.
The overall finish is a very chic and modern one. For example, this shower head is super slim and minimalistic
    with a water-saving energy-efficient design.

No wonder I thought it was a mirror for a moment.

Christmas came early this year ;)

New basin faucet, shower equipment, towel rod and toilet roll holder from CRISTINA.
So happy and blessed! Thank you God!

Big thanks to Sansei too, plus I had an incredibly fun and insightful time browsing their sprawling showroom!

Singaporeans always have a set mindset about where to go to buy furnishings for their home - usually typical places like Jalan Besar, Sungei Kadut, Park Mall and of course, Ikea.

The good news is, Singapore has much more to offer than that. Along the way of this project, I  discovered that the Tai Seng / Macpherson area is actually a thriving hub for home furnishings!

Many of the companies involved in my room makeover are here -- Window Image (curtains & upholstery), Bonjour Odyssey (LED lighting), OM (mattress) and Designed Design Associates (design agency); they are all located in this vicinity.

My final sponsor also joins that list :)

    Hi guys!

Guess my new favorite denim brand?

    …..The answer is already obvious

I was a fan of GUESS kids when I was a young girl, I remember I had lots of jeans, tops and sneakers from them (yes I was quite the impish tomboy haha). Fast forward 20 years and I’ve rediscovered GUESS again - I’ve fallen in love with their superb denim range! I mean it, and you will soon see why.

Their stores have specially trained denim specialists on hand to not only provide you with interesting knowledge, but also help you find your perfect fit with their advice and tips.

So I learnt that GUESS Denim is purely handcrafted. Thus while consistency is maintained in their designs, there are still some slight differences in every pair; which means to say, every pair of GUESS Jeans is UNIQUE!

Now don’t all of us want to feel a bit special? :)

There are several different fits (and tons of colors!) to choose from:

    Power Skinny (Best Seller)

Legging Fit, Low Rise, Ultra Skinny Leg

    Brittney Skinny

Slim Fit, Medium Rise, Skinny Leg

    Brittney Petite Skinny

Petite Fit , Medium Rise, Skinny Leg

    Sofia Skinny Curvy

Curvy Fit, Medium Rise, Skinny Leg

    Daredevil Boot

    Slim fit, Low Rise, Boot

After finding your favorite fits, you can choose from different types:

    Core the basic collection

Fashion includes details like embellishments, distress treatment etc .

Premium is the highest quality; e,g : using Italian fabric

The extensive range of cuts and colors bowled me over, I had a hard time not deciding just what to get, but which to try on because I wanted to try them all.

Of course, GUESS not only carries denim. Their boutiques carry a large selection of stylish apparels and sexy shoes, infused with a blend of American Western and European sensibility (the brand, after all, is French).

As I went around the store, there was a fury of colors as all sorts of shirts, printed tops and soft sweaters flew off the shelves. I was enthusiastically picking up items to match with the jeans I was going to try. GUESS has a lot of nice stuff, so I must say I had a really good time! Which girl doesn’t like shopping, right? ;P

My changing room was filled to the brim with piles of delectable clothes.

    My mission:
Style myself in 4 different outfits.

After selecting what I was going to wear, I went shoe shopping. (Hurrah! Another thing I love!)

Ready to view the four GUESS denim looks I personally put together?

    Lets go:

    Rugged Sexy

    Wearing: Power Skinny (Loud Wash)

Comment: The first classic design made by Guess. Beautifully stone washed (by hand) and the color is an evergreen denim shade to last through all seasons. I like the zip at the ankles for versatile styling, it lends a little edge.

     Modern Bella

    Wearing: Brittney Skinny (Chershire Purple)

Comment: I adore the color of these individually dyed jeans! It’s not really purple but more of a very pretty dusty pink. The little rips give it character.

    Slouchy Luxe

Wearing: Brittney Skinny (Candor 5 Wash)

Comment: I’d wear these on those lazy, chill days when I want to be casual and comfortable. It’s a gorgeous light denim, and also stone washed by hand. Hence the tones of color are very authentic, not fake-looking like many of the machine made ones. The little silver studs and logo on the back pockets are applied by hand as well, gorgeous!

    Party Rock

Wearing: Power Skinny (Ombre Jet Black)

Comment: Individually dyed, these jeans are a stand-out wardrobe piece with it’s distinctive graduations in color. Grey or black? It’s both! I love the statement look of this pair with its touch of dark mystery.

Once again, all matching separates and shoes I chose are from GUESS.

    Overall Verdict:
I always have a hard time finding jeans that fit a petite girl like myself – either the crotch area isn’t cut right, the length is too long, or when it comes to skinny jeans, the shape or ankle area is always too loose (whadya mean they’re skinny???)

    GUESS jeans are AMAZING.

    • The fit and cut blew me away. The denim clung to all the right places!
    • The Power Skinny is powerfully skinny all the way from top to bottom, just the way I like it. And in the case of the Brittney Skinny, the ankle cut is just perfect, not super tight but not too loose either, and falls in a tapered manner very nicely.
    • Length wise, they must be made for Asian sizes because I found no need to alter the lengths at all, as you can see.
    • The back pockets sit high up and accentuate your butt, making it look perky. Jeans with ill-fitting back pockets are a big no-no!

Denim jeans have gone from a laborer’s uniform long ago, to a modern day staple in everyone’s wardrobe.

If you’re looking to find some great pairs…

Don’t miss this limited time period promotion!

Honestly, I’m so sure you will love their jeans as much as I do. Take it as the $20 is already yours to spend, because I know you will :)

    MEN can try too!

    That’s not all.
GUESS is turning 30! And you can win tickets to join me at the Guess 30th Anniversary Party!

    How to win:

Snap photos of yourself trying on GUESS Denim.
Upload your photos in a tweet with hastag #GuessJeansParty.

Best photos will win the invites!

(only open accounts qualify, locked Twitter accounts cannot be viewed)

Winners will be notified by 1st October.

I dare you to guess which GUESS campaign picture of Claudia Schiffer was taken in 1989.

23 years on and the supermodel still looks stunning, just as how GUESS is still the perennial brand of sexy cool.

  • W Singapore - Sentosa Cove Preview Party

First launched in 1998 with the W New York, W Hotels are widely regarded as the epitome of hip & stylish luxury boutique hotels, and has grown to become an iconic brand in it's own right, with over 50 international locations.

Come tomorrow, Sunday 16 September 2012, Singapore will officially have our very first W Hotel (and residences!)

Here are some peeks at the W Singapore Get Ready preview party held at the Glass House in Sentosa Cove... resplendent in the chain's signature hot pink and purple colors :)

Don't mind the grainy pictures taken with my phone

DJ Mister Has is set to rock with his sets as W's resident spinmaster.

We were treated to a fashion showcase by local designer Mae Pang.

Delicious canapes (the seared tuna was ohhhh-lala...) were served by waitresses in eye-catching makeup.

Bringing faux lashes to a bold new level!

Definitely staying true to theme with W's focus on vibrant, amplified sensory environments.

In case you're wondering, where is the lobby? Rooms? Pool?
Well let me tell you.... I don't know either!
My friends and I were expecting a preview tour of the grounds; but the only thing we saw was the facade of the place. From a mile away.

Lights forming a W sign light up the W hotel from across the waters, while guests look on in bemused curiosity.

Nonetheless, it was a great party and a taste of more fabulous parties to come at the resort!

Entrance of the new W Singapore Sentosa Cove:

Will we be Wowed & Wild tomorrow?

I'll probably check it out sometime myself too (already know of some friends who have booked their wedding dinners there)

I'll end with some photos of other lust-worthy Ws around the world.

I just stayed at the W Bali myself recently so will show you soon. x

SCORE! I recently got my hands on the new Audi A4 to test drive :)

The good people at Premium Automobiles provided excellent service the moment I walked in, the valets and receptionist were courteous and friendly even though they had no idea that I was reviewing one of their models.

You can't deny Audi makes some very attractive cars

I have been admiring the gleaming aesthetic of the Audi range as they gained prominence in recent years. The showroom provided me with plenty of shiny eye candy as I waited.

I got the keys and I was good to go. First thing to do:

Pick up my friends for a fun day out to who-knows-where-the-road will-take-us.

**Disclaimer: I am not an automobile expert. This is not meant to be a professional car review. For serious technical jargon, please direct yourself to Google search or Top Gear on tv!

Personally, there are only three very simple criteria I have for a car.

    1. Design - It looks good.

    2. Performance - It feels and drives good.
    3. Image – It has a good branding concept that fits my lifestyle

    DESIGN

The A4 is gorgeous, so it passes with flying colors here. The saloon’s silhouette is a classic sedan shape with modern refinement. It is elegant yet sporty with beautifully balanced curves.

Audi certainly put their “best face forward”. The front has rounded arches giving a nice 3-dimensional effect. The distinctive grills combine with the striking rings of the Audi logo harmoniously. Xenon plus headlights give extra punch. All in all, it’s a dynamic and powerful look that is a perfect blend of stylish minimalism, gracefulness and a right dose of “fierce".

I like my cars to look strong and cool, no "weak", “cute” or "boring" cars for me please!

The design is neither too girly nor too masculine. I imagine it will suit both sexes easily. Buy one and your whole family will be happy driving it!

The Audi A4 fits the bill perfectly as a car with an air of sophisticated city chic. I like that it doesn’t scream expensive in a loud flashy manner; rather it whispers luxury and seduces you with classy subtlety.

For our little day trip, I sped the car along the ECP and drove my friends to the end of the island in Changi. It was just us in the middle of nowhere - endless roads, grassland, airplanes overhead in the sky and the gentle lapping waves of the sea.

A fun day away from the congested city :)

Test car’s rims aren’t so nice. Opt for bigger rims and it’ll look even better.

    Let me show you:

    Drooling yet? :)

The interior is sleek and shows a high quality of workmanship. Everything feels solid and durable yet top-notch.

The upholstery is made of Fine Nappa leather. It’s not the softest I’ve sat in but it is still nice and plush.

The sport steering wheel is also leather, and it felt nice to grip. It’s a multifunction steering wheel, meaning air conditioning, music and other functions can be directly operated from controls on it. High-gloss applications and the slender chrome trims add luxe finishings to the inside.

Audi offers a whole kit of state-of-the-art infotainment systems for its A4 series. The chorus CD radio with eight speakers is standard, while the MMI navigation plus system with large hard disk, color monitor, 3D graphics and DVD player forms the top of the line. Voice control and the optional digital audio broadcasting are further improvements to the system.

Drink holders are great for me to place my fruit juice or coffee while on the go.

The parking brake has been dramatically shrunk, so to speak! It is now configured as a cool little tab by the gear shift that you simply pull or press up and down.

Fans of minimalistic, high-tech driving would like this! Those who like to rally and drift, this one’s not for you.

As it is, the car is already roomy and very comfortably fit three friends in the back (plus shopping bags, cameras and all my shoes!), My friends commented that there was enough leg space without feeling cramped.

Have you ever traveled in a group and had trouble squeezing several pieces of luggage into the trunk of the cab or car? I know some have rather pathetically sized boot space. Especially those of you who do lots of shopping on your holidays – you’re probably familiar with this problem!

Now you can pack your worries away because another awesome feature of the A4 is the EXTRA SPACE it gives you.

If it fit the 3 of us, it’ll fit a lot of things!

The trunk space is huge enough to easily store away bodies of kidnapped girls, and other large bulky items that you need to transport from time to time ;)

Super convenient and easy peasy with the fold down seats

The luggage compartment has 480-liter capacity expandable to 962 liters with seats down (16.95 and 33.97 cubic ft).

Another plus point, especially for klutzy folks like myself - there are under-seat lights so passengers in the rear can find dropped items easily at night!

On blindingly sunny days, use the manual side window blinds to shield you.

Overall comfort level is high on the 2012 Audi A4. Attention to detail, the build quality, fit and finish are very good.

    PERFORMANCE

The Audi A4 is a powerful car for its class type. In case you didn't know, I’m a speed demon who enjoys driving fast. Driving a slow car makes me miserable >.<

Fortunately, I found the A4 was fast and had pretty quick acceleration to 100km/hr in about 7 seconds.

The engine is mated to an 7 speed S-Tronic automatic gearbox, and its powerful delivery is clearly felt. The engine idles with a smooth, refined note.

When I drove the A4 I was astonished at its super light handling. Some drivers might prefer a more solid steering feel, but I think this makes it great drivers who have to drive around a lot and may get tired, or women who want easy control.

While pushing the car out on the open ECP highway, the ride nonetheless felt composed and stable. I felt confident driving it even at 3-digit high speeds. Braking is one area that the A4 came shining through. Torque while making turns was also rather impressive.

Such a breezy drive, don’t fall asleep at the wheel now

Another high-end feature that gives the A4 a special status in its class is Audi drive select. In the basic package, the driver can switch the characteristic of the accelerator, the shift points of the automatic transmission, the power steering and the automatic air conditioning between the four modes - “comfort,” “auto,” “dynamic” and “efficiency.”

The start-stop system startled me at first! When I stopped at a light, the car would suddenly quiet down and seem to turn off completely. Then it’d rumble and shake up to life again when I released the foot brake. I thought there was something terribly wrong with the car.

Then I realized this was Audi’s energy-saving start-stop system that helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by switching the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill. Consumption levels have dropped by 11 percent on average.

This makes the A4 one of the most fuel economical cars in its class. To do my bit for the environment, I’d gladly get used to this!

The A4 comes equipped with Audi’s special TFSI® engine, a turbocharged, direct-injection system.

The four-cylinder engine delivers sporty thrust, with a power output of 125 kW (170 hp) and 320 Nm (236.02 lb-ft) of torque.

    IMAGE

From the Transporter series to Iron Man, Audi has captured many hearts with their product placements in movies. Because their cars look amazing, and well, Tony Stark drives one!

I feel Audi has undergone an extremely successful branding exercise in the past couple of years and have outpaced many competitors. Their new image portrays a hip and modern style of contemporary luxury.

And it’s not all superficiality only – the German precision motoring is synonymous with power, performance and progress. Indeed, their motto is ““Vorsprung Durch Technik”, which means  –“progress through technology”.

Driving an Audi not only gets you noticed, it makes a statement.

    Verdict:

The Audi A4 is exciting to drive and certainly one of the most handsome options in its segment.

Lead the way with confidence and set the pace in life with the new Audi A4

    I know I want to!
