  • Room Makeover Project x Qeeple pt. 3

    Hi guys!

I know many of you are eager to see how my new room is coming along, my friends can't stop asking me about it too!

The strange thing is I've grown rather accustomed to being "homeless". I'm like a vagabond, moving around all over the house to find a space to suit my mood; but never really finding my peace and sanctuary in any. Presently I'm living out of suitcases and cardboard boxes, crashing on the sofa some nights and bunking with my sister on others.

The bonus is... I get to play with her stuffed toys.

    Say hello to Waddle!

A lot of work has been done since part 1 and part 2, with more new sponsors from Qeeple.com  Curious? Read on.

    Magnificent 7

    http://qeeple.com/mseven

The contractor and carpentry guys tore down and removed everything from my room. I FELT SO SAD!!! I grew up with those light beech cupboards, shelves and desks; they were an everyday part of my life for 10 years. Hearing the shrill sounds of hacking and drilling were like tragic stabs to my heart, the knife twisting in mercilessly with each loud thud.

Sadly, progress has no time for sentimentality.

Here's Christopher from M7, my awesome and super nice contractor, showing me the markings he did of furniture placements.

He is one of the best in the business - fantastic work, good ethics and wonderful character. My parents and I are very pleased with all he has done so far and he's almost like a friend now!

Big stamp of approval, highly recommend Magnificent 7 for all your renovation needs.

My room feels so airy and large this way. It's so nice I consider going the zen route with just one futon.

Joann, my head designer from Designed Design Associates, goes over plans and edits with me.
View more of their work at  http://qeeple.com/dda

She suggested tinting the existing cherry-colored parquet flooring to a more sophisticated deep brown. I went for the idea, since I think dark flooring is pretty sexy.

I even have a Qeepbook where I collectedmy favorite images of dark floors:

Chris worked very closely with the DDA designers.

The Magnificent 7 team build my wardrobe, dresser and bay area. The wardrobe will have light sensors, very cool.

    XTRA

    http://qeeple.com/xtra

SPONSORED: Sweet Light by Enzo Catellani for Catellani & Smith, Eames Molded Plastic Chair

XTRA's three-level showroom and flagship store is at Park Mall (right next to one of my favorite hangouts Kith Cafe). It was divine stepping in there, everything looked so sumptuous and well made. It was clear this is definitely no Ikea. Rather, the multi-brand store carries a wide array of modern, contemporary furniture from classic and emerging designers. Their knowledgeable staff will remind you they're all about THE REAL THING, not replicas!

Wearing: Chiffon Cage Back Top, Tailored Jeggings from www.lexilyla.com

I check out these decorative lights for my dresser table - Sweet Light by Enzo Catellani for Catellani & Smith

See how I control them with my magic powers ;)

At the same time, sitting on the chair I'll be using for my dresser.

Whether with the silver ski legs or traditional wooden legs, you've definitely seen this chair design out and around!
(Don't be surprised though, if many you come across are knock offs)

Pick your color. XTRA carries the AUTHENTIC Eames range from Herman Miller

These four here are vintage from the swinging 50s!

The  other legendary Eames Lounge Chair (which I love!) is also widely copied.

Designed by the prolific husband and wife team of architects and designers, Charles and Ray Eames in the 1940s and 1950s, their chairs were revolutionary in their use of materials, contributing to standards of living and are widely admired as the pinnacle of modern design. They are so iconic that they sit in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC.

Don't miss this insightful 'vintage' 2-part tv footage of the Eames couple and their masterpieces on NBC way back in 1956!

I'm thrilled to be owning my first iconic piece of designer furniture! It will make a great focal point in my bedroom :)

Note: So how do you tell a real Eames Lounge from a fake?

Your best bet to purchase from an authorized Herman Miller dealer, like XTRA :) Other signs to look out for, according to their staff:

    - There is an authenticity label on the underside of the chair. This applies to all Eames models.

    - Look at the leather upholstery on the armrest. Fakes often have a single piece of leather wrapped around the edge. Authentic models have a separate piece of leather welting wrapped around the edge.

    - Shell of cherry, walnut, santos palisander or rosewood.

    - The ottoman is the exact same size as the seat of the chair. In fact, the cushions are interchangeable.

    - Most copies recline, an authentic chair does not.

    - There should be absolutely no visible screws or bolts. None.

     Other interesting things at XTRA....

    Super retro-stylin' stereo set

    Naughty Tintin art

    WINDOW IMAGE & INTERIOR FURNISHINGS

    http://qeeple.com/windowimage

SPONSORED: Upholstery for bed headboard and bay windows, curtains, tailored made cushions/ throws, velvet for the interior of the dressing table.

I love plush materials and laying back in luxe bliss. Window Image is the go-to company for all the softness and textures I like.

Giant showroom with any soft furnishing material imaginable... from blinds to curtains to even carpeting.

    Looking at dark-out curtain fabrics.

Selecting a light day curtain fabric.

Plenty of gorgeous textures to choose from!

This was tricky because it can be quite difficult to visualize some of the small cuts of fabrics as a larger surface area. Also for my drapes I didn't want something too shiny or crinkly, yet it should have a bit of sheen. Bed headboard wise, PVC leather was suggested - however I was concerned it'd look cheap and plasticky. I browsed velvety-suede materials; but these are tough to maintain and clean over time. Thankfully in the end Joann found a non-tacky looking, nice satiny type which we are most probably going to use.

It's giving me a HEADACHE! Spoilt for choice and can't decide.

Window Image has been so kind and awesome to fit my project in despite their packed schedule. Yes they have a longggg line of customers! ... A sure indicator of how good they are :)

    OM

    http://qeeple.com/om

    SPONSORED: Lavender Scented Mattress

True to their tagline, OM has a large selection of Extremely Fashionable Furniture.

Their beddings section was a real treat.
With spa music playing and heavenly fragrances floating through the air, I was ready to knock out and sleep there overnight. A massage would have been great too, haha.

OM'S priciest, top-of-the-line range is called Isaiah.
The mattresses are organic, eco-friendly, made with nano-technology and incorporate therapeutic benefits.

All designed to help you sleep beautiful and wake up feeling beautiful.

"Excuse me miss, you're not supposed to lie here..."

The lavender-scented mattress I'm getting makes you feel like you're sleeping on big fluffy white clouds! Unbelievable!

As you can see in the photo, this pillow top mattress  is different from standard mattresses in that they have an extra component - special cushioning on top for an extra soft feel, but with a firm layer of support underneath. Not to mention, the lavender scent adds an aromatherapy advantage, to relax and soothe. The scent lasts for 5-10 years.

Looks like no one is going to be able to wake me up from now on!

Another model is their bamboo-charcoal mattress in a sleek silver color.

Bamboo charcoal is also known as takesumi or chikutan in Japan. This unique material has many advantages: anti-bacterial properties, natural deodorizer, insulation properties, emit infrared rays, improve blood circulation, releasing negative ions for "air vitamins" to enhance health and relief stress.

You should change your mattress every 5-10 years depending, and if you are you should certainly try these organic mattresses from OM. Because think about it, a good night's sleep is priceless and will affect all your time out of bed.

    FRIVEN & CO

    http://qeeple.com/frivenco

    SPONSORED: Pillows and Bed Linen

I was talking with my friend about how to recreate the amazing feel of hotel beds, and he shared with me a secret he had found out - Tencel.

It has superior absorbency, a luxury luster similar to silk, and the clincher - it is incredibly soft. Even better than any thread count of cotton you can find! I swore I would switch to it.

So it was good news to find out that Friven & Co. carries a Tencel range of bed sheets.

You have to touch it to believe it.

Friven & Co. also manufactures and sells a variety of quality bedding brands like Friven, DS, Perrin de Rossi, Sisley Casa, Viva, Relax at Home and Allegoria. Unfortunately though, I only wanted pure white sheets, and they did not have that color in Tencel. Maybe next time :)

Finally, this is how my room looks now.
Yes, lots of mirrors, great for full length LOTD shots, hehee.

More than halfway through and almost done! Stay tuned for more updates!

    God bless. x

  • Instagram Me Pics

Since my laptop has recently decided to become best friends with the rainbow wheel and is currently undergoing some maintenance issues (in other words - "SHHHHHEEEEETTTTT! BACK UPPPPPP!!!!"), I am rendered incapable of blogging the topics I want to at the moment.

    :'(((

So to make up for void, I've decided to share some of my favorite "me" photos from Instagram in this blog entry.

Instagram has been gaining super-duper huge popularity of late; I've noticed that rather than tweeting, many friends prefer to let their pictures do the talking. I'm very curious to see what bright developments lie ahead in the future for the hit app, after being bought by Facebook for $1billion.

Okay now, photo heavy post ahead! Oh and if you aren't already following me, my Instagram handle is @dawnyang

    p.s   Next time, I'll do a Instagram food/random photos :)

  • Error in Lifestyle Magazine

    Dear Germaine Lim,

I would like to point out some errors regarding part of your article on Xiaxue where I was mentioned, in Lifestyle Magazine.

    1. She was not in the "Hottest Blogger" poll. I was. To recap, topping it marked the start of my blogging career and readership began to grow very rapidly.

    2. She was however, so upset about these postcards published by The Straits Times that she purposely threw them away.

Talk about ego trippin >.<  Btw in case you're wondering, I had no involvement whatsoever in the design and tagline of the postcards, except only giving them my quote about learning Mandarin.

I ignored this and did not make any mention of her or the incident.

    3. Certain media coverage, my growing sponsorships, public opinions made her not too happy apparently...

By her own admission on her blog, she said she was pissed off by netizen comments such as:

"Oh Xiaxue! Dawn is class belle leh. You ugly prefect!"

    and

"Look at Dawn! People got given an LG phone/whatever product leh! You leh?"

Okay those are really silly statements and it's really silly to take them to heart.

    4.  "I’m sick of people comparing me to Dawn Yang." She blew up with a defamatory blog post.

    5.  In the article it's stated in 2006 "The two post nasty remarks about each other."  CORRECTION - At the time all the way from 2006 till the lawsuit, in 2008, I did not write anything negative on her, I kept quiet throughtout. It was one-sided. Any nasty comments only came from her. Even after the lawsuit I tried to remain as civil as possible and refrained from talking about her.

I did not even mention this then:

The point of this is I am tired of people always portraying the situation as one where both parties had their claws out for a virtual catfight - for the record I DID NOT SEEK A FIGHT. I was DRAGGED into it unwillingly, and unfortunately by circumstances. I hated being involved in something so ridiculous.

Great article, but please get your facts right Miss Lim. Thank you!

  • New Video: After Hours SG - Attica

    TGIF!

What are you doing this Friday night? If you're planning to party, why not check out Attica at Clark Quay?

Just a few years ago, I thought the club was a place for expats and SPGs. So imagine my surprise when I checked it out again during their "Tennis" theme night recently and found that the crowd was now very different - very cosmopolitan and packed with people of all ages and walks of life.

I also tried their signature, scientific mix of a cocktail drink (very lethal...) and deflect a bunch of pick up lines that run the gamut from funny to gross.

Watch the short video and perhaps you'll be tempted to go  for a crazy night out :)

**While filming in the club we caught a couple making out in the corner, and they sat up in shock when the bright camera lights were suddenly on them. Awkward moment! It would have been hilarious if that scene was included, but I guess the director is too nice ^.^

  • G.O.D Opening Party in Singapore

When I first saw G.O.D in Hong Kong, I was like, "cool!"

Goods of Desire (住好啲) is quintessentially Hong Kong. And in the local dialect of Cantonese, their name also means “to live better”. They have developed a cult following with their quirky and cheeky play on all things "Honkie".

Founded in 1996 in Hong Kong, Goods of Desire has since evolved from a small retail space in Ap Lei Chau (鴨脷洲) to become an established, multifaceted Hong Kong brand. Their designs are inspired by the vibrant culture of the energetic city, where East meets West and age-old traditions thrive alongside modern technologies. Through humor and ingenuity, everyday items are transformed into truly extraordinary creations.

Fans and curious new shoppers will be excited to know that last month, the brand marked it's first international expansion with a 6000 sq ft. flagship store in Central at Clark Quay right here in Singapore. And I was there to check out the special launch :)

  • Advertorial Feature

    It’s a 70th birthday party!!!

My girlfriend Michelle celebrated her birthday with us, but no she’s not a grandma – she just combined forces with another friend of hers, bringing the years of commemoration to a grand total of 70!

The theme was a Black & White Affair. Oh, classy.

Wouldn't we all love one of those?

There were almost 50 guests at the party and everyone quickly made merry and got jolly.

    Soon a host’s worst nightmare…

UH OH! ALCOHOL IS RUNNING OUT!

I wanted Michelle to enjoy her birthday without a hitch.

I knew just who to go to for help.

AlcoholDelivery.com.sg is a super convenient service for parties and gatherings, whether you’re planning weeks ahead or you need drinks for your guests, pronto. They can deliver everything to you in 1 hour!

    The menu is extensive :

You name it, they have it.

All the different flavors of Absolut Vodka and even the super expensive Remy Martin Louis XIII.

Best of all, their items are priced very competitively.

For example, I did some of my own research and comparisons.

                                           AlcoholDelivery.com.sg        Cold Storage         NTUC

    Absolut Vodka                          $50                               $68.50                  -

    * SPECIAL PROMOTION! *

Good things have to be shared.

Refer your friends and you’ll be rewarded with a bottle of Absolut Vodka!

See their Facebook Page here for more details.

For most adults, it's fine to enjoy a drink here and there. Do not drink or buy alcohol if you are under 18 as it is illegal. Please know your limits, drink responsibly, and definitely stay away from driving if you do. It is also a very ugly thing to get drunk and become a blithering idiot who has to be carried by friends with your puke all over them. Be safe and sensible!

  • Happy National Day Singapore

This year during our dear nation's 47th birthday, like many patriotic Singaporeans do, I left the country for a while.

Hello from Byron Bay in Australia!

Home is where the heart is. No matter which gorgeous faraway land I'm in, I still love my tiny little powerhouse of a country and our people. You can take me out of Singapore but you can't take the Singaporean out of me. I wore our national colors in remembrance ;) Paisley printed dress from an upcoming collection in Lexi Lyla.

..... So this is what I missed, wow it gets more spectacular each year!

What do you love about your country?

  • Room Makeover Project x Qeeple pt.II

Plans for my gorgeous (I know it will be!) new bedroom are well underway. Everything is shaping up nicely :) In case you missed the first installment in this exciting journey, here's part I.

You know what one of the biggest shockers from the experience so far is?

I had no idea this much work and planning goes into creating a fresh living space.

It's especially tricky when you're re-working your way around an old place and have particular constraints - e.g. protruding beams, a sad existing floor color, and the clincher - small space. Once upon a time not too long ago, I thought "How hard can it be? I trust my taste, I can easily redo my bedroom myself!" Now, after going through countless meetings, discussions and complicated construction plans, I'm singing a different tune.  I've realized that if you have lofty standards for your interiors, you're much better off getting some expert assistance.

"Be honest honey, when I gave you money to hire an ID for our room.... what exactly did you do with it?"

The best place to get started on your home design project is through Qeeple! Not only did I find a ton of inspiring ideas there, I curated all my favorite looks in my Qeepbooks (view here) and through their site found some of the best people in the business to re-do my room.

Let me show you how members of my makeover dream team have helped me so far.

    DESIGNED DESIGN ASSOCIATES

    http://qeeple.com/dda

SPONSORED: Interior design conceptualization and management

Joann, the director of DDA, does high-end private projects in Singapore and all around South-east Asia. DDA won Best Interior Design Apartment Singapore at the 2012 International Property Awards (Asia Pacific) for The Peak Residences. She now has the unenviable task of working with a control freak, yours truly ^.^ I on the other hand, am incredibly honored to have her be my designer!

Joann looked through the pictures in my Qeepbook and asked me questions about my tastes and lifestyle habits. I told her I would move into a hotel if I could, and I'd love to recreate a similar feeling of luxurious, modern hospitality with a cool twist in my room. I adore boutique hotels and exquisitely done up showflats.

She saw that storage was a big issue for me (piles of clothes! old letters! books! stuffed toys!) and we discussed various options of storage solutions. She had the brilliant idea of converted my balcony access area into a wardrobe space, applause! Additionally, we will have a wardrobe redesign (more hanging space inside, sliding doors for a sleek finish and to provide more room for walking)

In my previous post, I asked you which floorplan was better, and wow thank you all for your helpful comments! :) I finally decided on....

    Reasons:

    -  The left door is the entrance. Hence, it makes a bigger visual statement to see the bed and a grand headboard first, rather than wardrobe. If the bed were on the other wall, it'd feel a little intrusive if I were lying so close to the door.

    - I wanted a proper dresser with a full mirror. I had the idea of opening it up like a medicine cabinet to store jewellery and make up behind.

    - Bay seater can be used for storage below. Cushions can be removed to be used as a table top if needed.

    - Instead of hanging long dresses as written in the plan, the little access area next to my bed will be converted into storage/display for my bags instead , which I think will be pretty cool. It's the most feasible option as that space must still retain a door behind and remain accessible to the outside balcony area.

*I'm keen to convert this large balcony space into a super huge walk-in wardrobe in the future if building permits are approved,  it'll be every girl's dream come true!*

So that's how I decided on floorplan option 1.

Lets see the first design draft Joann came up with the help of....

    DESIGNCLIQUE ASSOCIATES

    http://qeeple.com/singapore3drendering#

    SPONSORED: 3D Rendering Services

Designers sometimes present their concept with a moodboard or 3D rendering images. 3D rendering takes a lot of effort as the realism of a 3D concept is dependent on the designer’s understanding of light, shadows and reflections. Also, rendering means hours of tedious waiting. While this process is usually done in house, designers sometimes turn to outsourcing this process for bigger or important design projects to help with design pitches.

Amazing. I've seen many 3-D renderings for interiors before, but these by Designclique are by far the clearest and most realistic I've ever come across!

The most horrifying nightmare for a home-owner is spending a bomb and walking into your new place with a rude shock. "Why like that? Not what I expected!" If you want a good visualization of your future home, please make sure you go to these guys.

The 3-D renderings have been an extremely useful tool in helping me make my design decisions. I can better communicate my likes/dislikes with Joann.

My comments after seeing the first draft:

    - Too glitzy and OTT for me. I prefer something a bit subtler.

    - The funny structural pillar that can't be removed is now beautifully concealed, which is great.

    - I like the use of mirrors, it's a sleek and easy way to create the illusion of bigger space.

    - But I don't want a mirrored wardrobe and don't want to sleep facing one.

    - I like the interesting headboard concept but I don't quite fancy the square grid tufting.

    - Color scheme has a bit too much gold/bronze. My ideal palette is more shades of white/cream/grey/champagne/black with splashes of lavender or other bright hues.

    - Accessories such as the chandelier, lamps, dresser and chair are too girly. Prefer to change them to a more modern chic look.

Another rendering by Don from Deisgnclique

Not exactly there yet; there will be more changes to the final design! Joann is working on improving it, especially since the bedhead area is proving a little tricky.

Their store is filled with all sorts of funky, hip and kooky furnishings, I had so much fun browsing the place!

It's cool to be having some Kartell items for my room. After all they're the world’s leading manufacturer of design classics made from plastic. One is bound to recognize their pieces, distinguished by their emotional character, durable functionality and quality; trademark colors, irony, unique shapes and plastic effects make up the undeniable visual appeal of their furnishings. Since its launch in 1949, Kartell has worked with many notable designers, including Philippe Starck in 2001 when they perfected transparent plastic with the iconic, award-winning Louis Ghost chair.

The Italian company continues to push the scientific limits of the material. Continuous evolution in how they use materials and experimentation with technologies have helped them develop new properties such as glazing, transparency, flexibility, weather resistance, softness and touch for their products.

New home decor items also available at Lifestorey include designer giant vases, lamps, flowers, frames and bean bags from Europe. I'm very happy to be receiving these accessories to add special touches to my room :) One of the items they're giving me is a faux fur throw. I think it's the ultimate cherry-on-top accessory for the bed!

The beds in my qeepbooks tend to feature a nice throw over it for that soft, luxurious feel.

    EVERSHINE

Evershine is the longest established surface provider in Singapore since 1961.

They have an impressive range of decorative surfaces in every color possible that are highly durable, versatile, aesthetically beautiful and best of all, eco-friendly. Besides laminates, they also carry solid surface and quartz materials for kitchens and bars. They're constantly keeping up with design trends by introducing stylish new surfaces, even those that mimic materials like python or ostrich!

Cutiepie Fiona from Evershine explains to me how laminates work and the importance of edging to create a seamless finish.
We play a little game, going around inspecting my house and guessing what's laminate and what's not -
It's hard to tell but I'm quite clever and spot correctly ;P Our furniture is wood but our kitchen is made of laminates!

Laminates are thin layers of material that are bonded together to make a durable sheet to be applied to surfaces such as countertops, cabinets and floors.

Rare and exotic woods or granite countertops can be cost-prohibitive. By using laminates, beautiful furniture, panels and features for a space can be created at a more lower price with the benefit of a solid  appearance.

Not only are laminates more affordable, they're lighter in weight, easy to maintain and easily replaced after wear and tear.

Evershine's mind-boggling array of laminates left me in a pickle. There were so many to choose from and so many type of grains and finishes. It was actually really fun browsing all the laminates and touching them for the different feels!

I definitely gravitate toward dark wood for their sophisticated allure; thus I settled on a deep, almost black wood trimming with a natural looking grain.

However, to my dismay, Joann advised that lighter colors are better to open up smaller spaces :(   We'll see what her final plan is and hopefully she can marry the two together.

    BONJOUR ODYSSEY

SPONSORED: LED lighting for bedroom, wardrobe and bathroom

"Bonjour and welcome! We are your best answer to cost-effective and high-end LED lighting systems"

I spend more than half my life in my bedroom. And when it's done up I'll probably want to hang out there even more.

Often, I read and fall asleep with the lights on. Neither do I like to sleep in total darkness alone (call me a scaredy cat >.<) This is a huge pain for my dad who never fails to nag at me about wasting electricity and how high our bills are.

But yet... the old lighting in my room is awfully dim, I don't know why on earth those terrible lights are using that much electricity?! I always feel like ripping them out because they give me a headache!

Solution: The latest technology, bright yet energy-saving LED lights

Harrison from Bonjour Odyssey is a great guy and he shared with me in depth about their products. Gosh, how many designs of lights do they have there?

LEDs are fast becoming the standard lighting for many countries as they begin to phase out the use of incandescent light bulbs. This is due to the fact that LEDs are superior in both power savings and flexibility of use. Most traffic lights and exit signs, for example, now use LEDs.

LED fixtures installed typically save an average of 75-80% on electricity.

The lifespan of an LED is vastly longer than that of incandescent, fluorescent or HID lamp sources, generally lasting 50,000 hours or longer. That's six years if you kept them on 24 hours a day!

LEDs are environmentally-friendly compared to other alternatives. They contain no mercury, last longer and produce less waste, are made from already recycled and fully recyclable materials.

Conclusion: The start-up cost of LED lighting may be more expensive, but in the long-run you'll save more and save the planet!

"I'm not crazy-eyed, I'm just so happy I see the light now"

Bonjour Odyssey is a leading specialist in LEDs, they do not only residential homes but also offices and big-scale government projects such as the new Pasir Ris Sports & Recreation Center!

Apparently, the edge they have over others is not just in their LED diodes but the fact that their power supply units behind the LED is specially made in Taiwan for their company. This ensures the longevity and quality of the lights. Other companies usually just use cheap ones. Not Bonjour Odyssey.

Based on my needs and room conditions, DDA designed a custom lighting plan which Harrison will implement:

Bonjour Odyssey can also directly help to create plans like this for homeowners searching for a lighting solution

I look forward to brighter days.

    MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

    SPONSORED: carpentry, construction, flooring

The man who makes it all come together - let's give it up for Chris!

Chris and his firm the Magnificent Seven are at the top of their game in the construction and carpentry business. They're highly experienced, skillful and reputable. Don't believe me, check out some of the significant projects they have done:

    • Amber Garden Condominium at Amber Road (200 units)
    • Emerald Garden Condominium at Club Street (265 units)
    • Chinatown Point at New Bridge Road
    • Alexandra Technopark at Alexandra Road
    • Valley Point Commercial Development at River Valley Road
    • M Hotel at Anson Road (400 rooms)
    • Le Grove Service Apartments at Orange Grove Road (96 apartments)
    • Orchid Country Club at Yishun Avenue 1
    • Raffles Town Club at Dunearn Road
    • MRTC 707 - Dhoby Ghaut
    • MRTC 708B - City Hall

I love Chris. Without him and Magnificent Seven, none of this would be possible. He's the one to execute everything and he's the engineering brain to work out the creative vision. Smart and very meticulous about what he does, he always thoughtfully considers all the best solutions and pays attention to every small detail that even I wouldn't think about. He'll patiently go over things with me and I can tell he is sincere in wanting to meet our needs. When DDA suggested building a mobile pull-out wardrobe at my balcony access area, he gamely agreed to help build this complicated thing and even though we're not doing it anymore, I'm certain he'd have done a fantastic job!

Chris is simply a joy to work with. On top of his excellent work ethic, he's SUPER NICE, easy-going, helpful and kind. He asked my parents if we needed any touching up on walls around our home, how sweet is that? When we had no room to store my current teak bed frame, he offered to put it at his warehouse. Things get done quickly, actually ahead of schedule. While contractors are known for delays, Chris instead gets concerned and wants to get things moving! If you need a reliable and honest contractor, you really can't ask for a better one than him, he's the whole package!

He treats his employees with respect and care and we all know happy workers = better work.  In fact, such a believer is he in the progress of the industry, his company is even sponsoring training programs for ITE students, without any bond.

I've observed the workers on site and am pleased with their work so far.

All pre-exisiting built-in furniture have been removed by Magnificent Seven. Now they're sprucing it up, prepping the walls and floors. Let the construction begin!

That's all for now folks.  I've learnt that great interior design is not as easy as simply throwing some furniture together. It's really a sum of it's total parts, and first and foremost you have to make sure each part is great.

Are you excited to see how my room will turn out? Me too. I'll be updating more on the project soon  :)
Meantime, if you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions, do leave a comment to let me know. x

  • Advertorial Feature

With Dark Knight Rises being the movie du jour (oh don't worry, no one dies at the end guys... really...), this time I'm taking sartorial inspiration from one of the comic franchise's most enduring characters - Catwoman.

Yes I lovingly did this montage myself!

I vividly remember Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry do their turn as the feline villain, but I've got to say Anne Hathaway's interpretation beats them all in terms of style.

Costume designer Lindy Hemming shares that Anne's outfit was designed to be sleek and light but functional, and that those cute car ears were inspired by jewelers. "Christopher Nolan and I were trying to work out how we were going to keep it modern and trendy and cool. We started making our version of night-vision goggles — or magnification goggles  when she's doing her cat burgling. We made it so that when it goes up, it falls into ears."

The kicker has got to be those *literally* killer heels!

Even when she's not creeping around at night, her wardrobe is minimal old school glamour - lots of classic black, pearls, a seductive bold red lip. And true to Catwoman form, always fitted and sexily slicked up.
